The early dawn over Mount Moriah was crisp, the ancient stones of Jerusalem holding the cool memory of the night.
In a quiet stone archway overlooking the Old City, Yonatan stood beside his mentor, an elder named Binyamin whose hair was as white as wool. On a low table between them lay two open scrolls: the prophecies of Daniel alongside the vision of Ezekiel.
Yonatan pointed toward the ridge across the valley. "Binyamin, for generations people have asked why the prophets speak of smoke rising from the altar once more. If the ultimate redemption has come, why does Scripture describe animal offerings in the days ahead?"
Binyamin looked out across the waking city with a gentle, discerning gaze.
"To understand the prophetic word, Yonatan, you must distinguish between two separate eras and two distinct purposes in the divine plan: the altar of the Tribulation, and the sanctuary of the Millennial Kingdom."
I. The Tribulation Altar and the Cut-Off Sacrifice
Binyamin turned to the scroll of Daniel, tracing the ancient Hebrew characters with his fingertip.
"First," the old man explained, "comes the time of trial before the great return. Daniel wrote repeatedly of the Tamid—the daily sacrifice—speaking of an hour when the covenant is broken, the daily offering is abolished, and the abomination of desolation is set up in its place."
He paused, recalling the words spoken on the Mount of Olives centuries later. "When Yeshua warned His disciples in Matthew 24:15, He pointed directly back to Daniel: ‘So when you see standing in the holy place the abomination that causes desolation...’ Consider the plain logic: for an offering to be stopped, interrupted, or desecrated by a lawless ruler, it must first be re-established upon the altar in Jerusalem."
"And that is why we see the preparations even now," Yonatan murmured.
"Indeed," Binyamin nodded. "Across Jerusalem, dedicated hands in the Temple Institute have faithfully crafted the pure gold and copper vessels, trained descendants of the Levitical lineage, and searched for the unblemished red heifer. They prepare the physical implements so that the biblical service can resume the moment the way opens. Yet prophecy warns that this service will be caught in the storm of the final conflict, abruptly halted by the false peace of the adversary."
II. The Millennial Temple of Ezekiel
The elder turned his hand to the second scroll, rolling it open to the breathtaking expanse of Ezekiel chapters 40 through 48.
"The second event is entirely different," Binyamin said, his voice filling with reverence. "This is not a temporary altar caught in the crossfire of war. This is the grand, restored sanctuary built when Yeshua reigns physically and righteously from Jerusalem over all the earth."
Yonatan looked at the precise measurements recorded in the text—the grand outer courts, the majestic gateways, the living water flowing from the threshold, and the Sons of Zadok ministering at the altar.
"How are we to understand burnt offerings, peace offerings, and sin offerings during the thousand-year reign?" Yonatan asked. "We know the word of Hebrews: the blood of bulls and goats could never permanently take away sins."
"They do not compete with what is finished; they honor it," Binyamin answered firmly. "In the ancient wilderness, before the Messiah walked the earth, the sacrifices looked forward in shadow and anticipation. In the Millennial Kingdom, where mortal nations from all over the globe come up year after year to learn the Torah and walk in the King's light, these offerings look backward. They stand as a tangible, living memorial—a solemn physical object lesson for mortal generations living in an era of unprecedented peace. They demonstrate the absolute gravity of transgression, the unyielding holiness of the Creator, and the eternal weight of the redemption Yeshua accomplished once and for all."
The Divine Symmetry
The morning sun crested the Mount of Olives, bathing the golden stone walls below in brilliant light.
"So the arc is clear," Yonatan said softly, looking at the scrolls. "First, a preliminary resumption of the daily sacrifice before the Great Tribulation, destined to be cut off by the abomination of desolation. And then, after the King overthrows the powers of lawlessness, a glorious Millennial sanctuary where offerings serve as an enduring testimony of holiness, memory, and divine order across the earth."
Binyamin placed a warm hand on the younger man's shoulder as the bells and morning birds echoed across the hills.
"The word of the prophets does not fail, Yonatan. From the darkest night of trial to the thousand years of peace, every stone, every altar, and every promise finds its true and righteous place in the Kingdom of our God."morial of God's holiness and righteousness on earth.
